4 Steps That Turned My Life For The Better

I hated my thighs for fifteen years.⁠
Fifteen f*cking years!⁠
That’s half of my life.⁠

⁠It all started as a teenager. ⁠
My thighs didn’t look as thin and slim as the ones of the other girls.
In the magazines. In television. In advertisements.⁠

It bothered me and I didn’t speak about it to anyone.⁠
The picture that something was wrong with how my thighs looked was etched in my mind.

⁠I wore only black jeans for 15 years because it made them look slimmer.
I avoided wearing shorts in summer although it was freakin’ hot outside.
I wrapped a towel around my thighs to cover them when I went swimming with friends.⁠
And whenever I was sitting down somewhere I looked at my thighs from above and thought:

“This looks so fat and ugly!”

I felt ashamed of how they looked.

Fast forward to now, I wish my 15-year-old self could see me today:

Doing a bikini photoshoot.
Wearing shorts in the gym.
Posing in front of the mirror.
Deadlifting 110kg from the ground.
Doing 12 pull-ups.
Being proud of my body.

A 360° U-turn and I’m sure you want to know how I’ve made it this far.

Here is my 4 step approach to give-a-f*ck-about-your-cellulite:

  1. Set Performance Goals for your Big Lifts
    Setting performance goals in the gym changed my inner dialogue about my body. My body started to be strong. My body had a purpose besides looking thin and slim. And I discovered what my body was capable of. Choose one of the big lifts that you want to put your main focus on and set strength goals for all big lifts you want to hit next year.
  2. Invest in a Coach
    Of course, you want to choose a coach you trust and vibe with, that gives a great training program and nutrition coaching. But the big takeaway here is that you put a price on your goal. Giving your goal a financial value gives it significance.
  3. Commit a Multi-Phase Journey
    If you’re following me for a while now, you understand that transforming your body and life takes years. But it’s not enough to understand it, you need to walk the walk. You need to commit to it and do the work day in and day out that will move the needle forward.
  4. Say Goodbye
    I hear people say: “Looking at your transformation, it will take me years and I’ll have a lot of work to do.” And this is true. I won’t sugarcoat anything here. But it’s not only true for you, but it’s also true for me. Changing never stops and once you’ve achieved one goal, you’ll already working on the next one. So stop thinking about how hard it will be and how long it will take. Instead, say goodbye to the illusion that you’ll be ever done and take action today.
